Lincoln's first major accomplishment was to earn the respect of New Salem, Illinois by defeating Jack Armstrong and his gang called Clary's Grove boys single handed. Lincoln was a strong young man he defeated Jack by lifting him up by the neck and nearly choking Jack to death. Lincoln told the Clary's Grove boys that he could take them all on one by one. Then Jack Armstrong told his gang"Boys, Abe Lincoln is the best fellow that ever broke into this settlement. He shall be one of us." and they became best friends.
One of Abraham Lincoln's accomplishments was when Abe was young. In 1844 Abe and William Herndon were both in the practice of law and they both developed a professional and personal relationship. Lincoln made a good living but Springfield did not offer enough work as a lawyer so he moved to Illinois.
Another Accomplishment for Mr. Lincoln was that Abe served a single term for the House of Representatives from 1847 to 1849. When Abe Lincoln served for the House of Representatives. He also gave a speech of the Mexican-American war, The speech was called "Spot".
Abraham Lincoln became the President of the United States of America which the Civil War started. Abraham Lincoln hated war and the death and destruction it will bring to the US but he had to do what had to be done. Abraham warned the South in his Inaugural Address.
By the third year of the bloody Civil War, Abraham Lincoln issued the famous Emancipation Proclamation on January 21,1863. The Emancipation Proclamation declared "that all persons held slaves" within the rebellious states" are, and henceforward shall be free. As a result by the end of the civil war 200,000 black solders and sailors fought for the Union and freedom.
By the end of the war President Lincoln gave his famous speech called the Gettysburg Address. This speech was about all of the fallen solders who had died in the battlefield. Abraham Lincoln said"we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." This means that they can't let the solders die in vain so the nation had a new beginning, a birth of freedom, and the government of the people will be commanded by the people and for the people forever.
